This week I finished teaching an accelerated writing course for university students.
What makes teaching this class worthwhile is when students share how scared they were to take the course but then find themselves “hooked” on writing. Or when they tell me they were always ashamed of sharing their work, but through this course they discovered a writing talent that made their confidence soar and now they welcome feedback.
One student told me that thanks to this class, “I was able to experience creative freedom.”
He said that being given the freedom to write whatever he wanted allowed him to embrace his own style.
“I never felt so liberated in a class before,” he wrote. “I was able to tell the story I wanted to tell, which motivated me to make sure it was a darn good one.”
That’s music to a writing teacher’s ears.
Writing should be fun!
And it shouldn’t be just college students who get to have this experience.
And that’s why I’m holding a “Creative Write Night” at The Tasting Room wine bar in Fresno on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 7-9 p.m.
This 2-hour “social writing experience” will be a chance to sip, celebrate, create and connect with like-minded souls who want to explore their artistic side through writing. No experience necessary. Everyone is welcome!

Double the pleasure and bring a friend!
Because writing has been so important in my own life, I’m on a mission to help people access their inner treasures through Freedom Writing. It involves letting go of fear and limitation and allowing yourself to express your heart’s desire.
So if you’re in the area, make a date with your Muse and come out and join us for a night of creative expression, socializing and fun. And if you’re not in the area, let me know how I can bring Creative Write Night to a venue near you.
Grab your beret (or any type of “thinking cap”) and come on down. Join the writing party. Get your creative juices flowing and be part of the world’s most noble tradition. Let writing change your life. (It sure changed mine!)
