Like it or not, the media loves controversy. It’s in our faces more than ever now.
Often it’s not pretty, but perhaps you can learn something from it and put it to good use for a higher purpose. For example, if you want to get your message or your book out there by being in the newspaper or going on radio or television, one way to get interviewed is to be controversial.
Because controversy sells. No one’s interested in same old, same old.
How do you make yourself controversial? One possibility is to take the opposite point of view from what’s being batted around.
If everyone’s talking hate and dissent, be the bright light advocating peace and love. If everyone’s predicting disaster, be the one to genuinely find the silver lining. If everyone’s promoting salad, be the one who endorses pasta.
It’s not about being popular, it’s about being different. It’s about choosing the road less traveled.
Take a moment right now and think about how you can go against the grain and offer something unique yet highly valuable. What would make you stand out?
